Celebrating the 125th Anniversary of the

Bar Harbor Congregation Church, UCC

Ode by Don Dyer – 125th Anniversary 2008

Bar Harbor Congregational Church, UCC

A Time to Remember

Houses of worship

Stand the test of time,

A feeling of belonging

That church is "mine."

They’re a life of their own

With different religious themes,

All praise to God

With various spiritual means

Each church is an engine

Running a specific plan.

Composed of devoted members

All stating "I can."

Pastors and ministers

Preachers and all,

Came to the island

To answer the "call."

There was Reverend McGown

Who incorporated the church,

Then Torrey and Freeman

Great results of committee search.

Owen and MacDonald

Their achievements were great,

The vestry and endowment

Angus MacDonald did create.

The Rev. Homer Nelson

Who became our new hire,

Watched our "granite" church

Destroyed by fire!

Reverend Verne Smith

He was special to see,

He performed the wedding

For Marion and me!

Our new church was built

Rev. Lancaster was the one.

This church was dedicated

November 7, 1951.

Mosley, Symons, Hahn

Booth, Palmer and Hughes,

Ingham and Breault

Pastors past – great crews.

This church’s anniversary

The 125th today,

Gives pause for remembrance

With much more to say.

Like the town of Eden

The "meetings" on this spot,

The junior/senior choirs

They added a lot!

More events could be covered

More could be said,

I’ve done my best

I recalled past ministers instead.

Our salute to them all

They provided the lead,

A big hug to our own

The Rev/Doctor Sandra Reed!
