Chat Room Help

The Chat Room is a discussion group tool. Once the chat room is entered you can view comments or articles posted by other people. You may then add comments or articles of your own or reply to existing comments. The contents of the chat room will be listed in the upper frame (upper part) of the entry window. Original postings will be followed by a listing of replies to that posting in indented form, for example:

Topic 2 (Posting 2)

Reply 2

Reply 1

Topic 1 (Posting 1)

Reply 3

Reply 2

Reply 1

Note that the most recent topic is at the top of the list as are the replies to the topic. You can display the original topic or replies by pointing and clicking on the desired item in the contents list. When you do so you will find a list of tools in blue allowing you to display other items or respond to the topic or reply. If you are continuing the discussion of a particular topic or reply that you display, you should reply to that topic or someone else's reply because posting a new comment will generate a new topic category. Posting establishes a new "thread" that is independent from the replies associated with the original topic. "Thread" is a computer term that refers to how information is processed within the computer. Each topic is a separate computer thread. If you wish to establish a new topic, use the "Post" feature.

When a topic or reply is displayed, the following information is also generated and displayed:

From - the name or identifier the originator of the comment/article used when they submitted the comment.

Date - the date the comment/article was generated.

Time - the time the comment/article was generated.

Remote Name - the name of the computer on which the comment/article was generated. This information helps track nefarious users.

You cannot delete comments/articles that you post in the chat room. The website administer will delete comments/articles after their purpose is served. Please be respectful of other's opinions when using the chat room.

When you are finished in the chat room, you leave the chat room by pointing and clicking on the close box x in the upper right corner of the window.

The website administrator will activate/deactivate the chat room as required.
