MISSION TO HONDURAS REPORTS

Sunday, February 19

Twenty-three representatives of the Bar Harbor Congregational Church UCC are participating in a mission trip to Honduras from February 16 to February 28. Among these missionaries are two medical doctors, bankers, businessmen and teachers. Their objectives are to provide medical care and help complete vital community projects in a needy section of Honduras.

The Honduran people welcomed them with great hospitality. Their first Honduran meal was at the Power Chicken restaurant. The next day the group went out into the countryside to begin their work. On Saturday, February 18, the medical team treated over 200 Hondurans. Pray for their continued success.

The heat in Honduras was debilitating during the last week. The work is hard but the team made progress. Wally Reed and Dave Woodside rescued a dog that was overcome by the heat. The medical clinic has experienced an overwhelming number of patients. They ran out of medications early but were able to replace them. The Honduran hospitality continues to be great.

The Honduras mission is coming to a close. The exhausted team is preparing to return to the United States. One goal was to build a bridge between two settlements. Although progress was made on this bridge, it is not yet complete. The hot weather and unanticipated harder work slowed the progress on this project. The team could not provide all medical needs of the community but treated as many as one thousand patients. Many of the medical needs are not often seen in the United States. Parasitic infestations and vitamin deficiencies were frequently encountered and treated. God willing, others will travel to Honduras to continue the work.

The team continued to enjoy Honduran hospitality and 2½-hour worship services. We will formally welcome the team back to the United States on Sunday, March 12 with a potluck luncheon after the worship service.

We welcomed the Honduras mission team home at a pot luck luncheon. The team showed many photographs of their trip and related many stories of their experience.

We've been informed that the bridge the Honduras Mission Team began is now completed. Thank God for His blessings as a result of this mission effort.
