This renovation will make all areas of the church accessible to persons with disabilities and increase the space available for all functions in this wing. Fire fighting equipment will also be added to the building and more means of exiting the basement will be provided.
Note the pit that will allow light and air into the basement area and provide an emergency exit area. The large windows allow for more light in the office area.
Note the concrete ramp that provides a gentle rise to the main entrance permitting easy wheelchair access. An elevator being installed in the center of the wing will permit access to the basement for disabled persons.
The wing may be entered through a rear door in addition to the main entrance. Note the use of pits in the rear to allow light and air into the basement.
This picture, taken at the beginning of April 2006, shows the siding on the religious education and office wing is nearly complete. The sidewalk and other landscaping features are started. Note that the sidewalks follow a curved path permitting more room for activities on the main lawn area.
This photograph shows the iron fencing enclosing the window wells for the basement rooms. Note the open gate in the fence nearest the camera. The wells provide emergency egress from the basement area in addition to providing fresh air and sunlight for the basement rooms.
This photograph shows the old parlor and the extension in the right rear of the photograph. Part of the extension is a new kitchenette and serving area. The new baseboards and window and door trim will match the old trim in the parlor.
The new entrance to the renovated wing extends out into the lawn area. There are two entrance doors, one from an access ramp and another (shown in the photograph) that opens onto a landing and standard stair case.
To the right of the entrance area is the administrative office. This office has hardwood floors and state-of-the-art electrical connections. Note the recessed lighting.
The pastor's office has many bookcases and windows. It is located at the end of a corridor from the church parlor and isolated from other offices. This arrangement ensures privacy for counseling sessions.
The corridor shown in the photograph extends from the church parlor to the pastor's office. The elevator to the basement (shown in the center of the photograph) and the rest room is located off this corridor. The kitchenette area of the parlor is to the left in this photograph.
The basement corridor provides access to the religious education office and classrooms. The elevator door can be seen to the right of center in this photograph.
The elevator is driven by a hydraulic system. The hydraulic system and controls are shown here. This room is located in the basement and is isolated from other rooms.
The electrical distribution system is located in a utility room in the basement. Note the security system wiring to the left. The entrance to the elevator equipment room is seen in this photograph.
State-of-the-art lighting and fire-fighting equipment is located throughout the renovated spaces. The security system is being extended to the older parts of the church as well.
